The sport played across the globe using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net is known as “badminton” played with the most common form of either a single’s game or a doubles’ game it is enjoyed and quite popular in modern era sports. The sport is mostly a casual game that can be played anywhere whether in a backyard, school playground or even at the beach. The aim of the game is to strike the shuttlecock with the racquet and try to land it within the opposing side’s half of the court.
During the 2016 Olympic Games hosted in Rio De Jenerio, it seemed that the Chinese had the upper hand when it came to the result of the ten-day event. With over three medals won The Chinese athlete’s hand stole the spotlight of the evening.
Unlike previous badminton events that ever took place, this time, all the nations of the world were allowed only two representatives each at the men’s and women’s single, for the famous sporting event. Similar changes in the singles tournaments also applied to the players competing in the doubles, as the NOCs could only enter two pairs if both were ranked in the top eight, while the remaining NOCs were entitled to one until the quota of 16 highest-ranked pairs was filled.
The Venue
The events took place at the famous Rio Centro. It is an exhibition and convention center located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. It is the largest exhibition center in Latin America and was built way back in the 1970’s.
The famous convention center is quite popular when it comes to hosting sporting events, with many sporting events that have taken place such as Pan American Games. Results
During the final day of the match, the spectators were overwhelmed by a nail-biting game between Viktor Axelsen a fine athlete representing Denmark versus Chen Long who was participating all the way from China. The match was played for the bronze medal, and the result seemed to favor Denmark with a victory in the men’s single. The Silver Medal for this category favored the young athlete from Malaysia Lee Chong Wei. The Golden medal was worn by Chen Long from China.
The Men’s Double category was won by China that took the lead with the gold medal, along with Malaysia that won another silver medal and the bronze medal for a representative from Great Britain. The Women’s Single category was won by Carolina Marin from Spain going for the gold medal, along with P.V. Sindhu from India going in for the Silver medal, and Nozomi Okuhara from Japan with a victory of the bronze medal.
With the result of the 10-day events, there was no doubt that the Chinese had domination over the badminton court around the world, with over three medals won by its representatives the nation was the center of the spotlight.
