8 Most Outrageous Guinness Book of World Records

Have you ever found yourself ruminating on what must be the peculiar psychology of someone who zealously desires to decorate their name with a Guinness world record? Of course, some of the records documented in the publication are of a relatively anodyne nature, inconspicuous and largely unremarked upon. Yet, some of the records established are of such outrageous obscurity that they defy imagination. In this article, we’ll identify 8 of the most outrageous Guinness world records, ones which act as a testament to the extremes people will go to in order to have their achievements forever recorded in text.

Heaviest Train Pulled With A Beard

How does the thought of arduously pulling a formidable locomotive with the wisps of one’s beard enter a person’s mind? Apparently, in 2001, the notion did enter the mind of a man in Madrid, Spain. Ismael Rivas Falcon intrepidly pulled a train weighing 6,069 pounds a distance of 32 feet using only his facial hair and what I imagine must be substantial calf muscles. Making things even more interesting, Rivas performed the feat with passengers on-board the train he was pulling. Clearly, facial hair has more practical utility than we had initially conceived.

Most Feet And Armpits Sniffed

Can you imagine being professionally employed to sniff the body odor of strangers, especially in nooks and crannies that typically emit putrid smells? That was the case for a peculiar employee at Hilltop Research Laboratories, where they examined the efficacy of products manufactured by Dr. Scholl’s. In a career spanning 15 years, a woman named Madeline Albrecht sniffed thousands of feet and armpits in order to perform obligatory job duties. Taken cumulatively, she is reported to have sniffed approximately 5, 600 feet and an undetermined amount of armpits.

Fastest Marathon Dressed As An Elf

If you’re determined to win a marathon, perhaps it is a necessary imperative to create a subcategory for oneself: “Fastest Time Dressed In Whatever Costume.” A man from Leicester, England named Ash Payne – perhaps realizing his deficits as a runner – perseverated on how he could nonetheless make a mark in the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon. He managed to finish the race in 2 hours and 58 minutes while simultaneously achieving the reward of being forever documented in the Guinness Book of World Records, largely because he finished the race costumed as an elf; thus achieving the infamy he so desired.

Most People Crammed In A Smart Car

In 2011, a group of cheerleading teenagers were apparently bored. Adhering to a set of prescribed guidelines surrounding the make of the vehicle and the height and weight of the passengers; 20 girls were able to settle themselves inside of a two-seat Daimler Benz smart-car. As smart-cars are notoriously small, such a compression of humans into a circumscribed space is, indeed, impressive. The “Comets” cheerleaders tied a record previously set on the Lo Show Dei Record in Milan, Italy.

Largest “Hairy” Family

One might assume “hairy” might be being used as a euphemism for something else here, but in this instance, it very literally means “hairy.” The largest “hairy” family resides in Mexico, a family of four, all suffering from a rare condition referred to as Congenital Generalized Hypertrichosis, which manifests as excessive facial and torso hair. Men in the family exhibit almost 98% coverage of their body in hair, while women feature light to medium coats. Larry and Danny, the parental unit of the family, perform in the Mexican National Circus.

Most Watches Eaten

What an unappetizing diet! Pure metal. In 1998, a man from South Korea determined to set the world record for the quantity of watches consumed in a single setting. Kim Seung Do, who claimed to have daily consumed 600 grams of metal per day, perched himself on the set of “Guinness World Records: Primetime” in Los Angeles, and dolefully dredged through his meal of metallic time-tellers. Again, if you ever discover yourself feeling preternaturally untalented, there is always a niche for you in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Most Naked Riders On A Theme Park Ride

If one’s aspiring to break a world record, why not do it in the company of friends? A group of such folks congregated in Blackpool, Lancashire, UK, to communally ride a theme park ride dressed in nothing but their birthday suits. 195 naked riders rode the Grand National rollercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2019, breaking a previously established record. If I had to guess, I’d imagine all their nether regions were “chilled” afterward. Hopefully, blankets were on-hand.

Largest Sumo Suit Gathering

In 2015, 293 volunteers from “Purple House Cancer Support” joined together in a grand mutual endeavor of dressing in blown-up sumo wrestler costumes. Transpiring in Bray, Ireland, the group was ostensibly attempting to engage their community in philanthropic efforts associated with cancer research. I suppose, if one was absolutely intent on humiliating themselves, it can be rationalized at least partly if its in support of a charitable cause.
